Poet-politician
Union HRD minister Kapil Sibal is planning a second book of his poems, which is expected to be out later this year. His first collection of poems, I Witness, is a big hit. As a poet-politician, Sibal joins the ranks of V P Singh and A B Vajpayee. In fact, Vajpayee’s collection of poems, Meri Ekyavan Kavitayen, was released by the then PM P V Narasimha Rao. Though a public man, Sibal is a private poet. In I Witness, whatever the theme, inflation, twenty20, 123 pact, et al, there is wit and satire in his poems. His best is on Vajpayee: ‘Let us complete the unfinished tasks and see the man behind the mask … December 6, this nation saw gross violation of law. In retrospect, you say this meant expression of national sentiment’. And a line of advice: ‘Build that mandir in your heart; let not the nation fall apart’. |
